The Man­i­toba School Library Asso­ci­a­tion is pleased to announce that in addi­tion to our annual SAGE con­fer­ence on Fri­day, Octo­ber 20, 2017 we will be host­ing a national school library sym­po­sium, Trea­sure Moun­tain 5 (TMC5) which begins imme­di­ately after the SAGE con­fer­ence and runs through to Sat­ur­day, Octo­ber 21st.  Par­tic­i­pants can reg­is­ter to attend either event but we hope that you will con­sider reg­is­ter­ing for both.  Any­one reg­is­ter­ing for both events will receive a free tour of the Cana­dian Museum for Human Rights on Friday evening right after the SAGE conference.  Transportation will be provided from the SAGE conference, to the CMHR and back to TMC5.

 

MSLA SAGE Conference

The title of this year’s MSLA SAGE Conference is Truth in our Stories: Seeking a Path to Reconciliation.  An all Indige­nous panel of pre­sen­ters will share their sto­ries through text, speech, art, music, film, dance and sto­ry­telling as we seek the truth in Canada’s past.  Keynote speaker is author, Melanie Flo­rence, win­ner of the 2016 TD Children’s Lit­er­a­ture Award for her book, Miss­ing Mimama, a pic­ture book that speaks to the tragedy of miss­ing and mur­dered Indige­nous women in Canada. The conference is intended for all educators, administrators and support staff so please spread the word to your colleagues.

TMC5 is an oppor­tu­nity for teacher-librarians, school library sup­port staff and admin­is­tra­tors to reflect on the lat­est in school library learn­ing com­mons research as it per­tains cul­ti­vat­ing cul­tur­ally respon­sive spaces in schools across Canada. Keynote speakers for this event are Karen Boyd, Assis­tant Super­in­ten­dent for Edu­ca­tional Pro­gram­ming in the River East Transcona School Divi­sion and Camille Callison,  chair of the Canadian Federation of Library Association's Reconciliation Committee and lead writer of their Reconciliation Report and Recommendations.  Top­ics to be explored include the learn­ing envi­ron­ment, instruc­tional approaches, learn­ing part­ner­ships and lever­ag­ing tech­nol­ogy.

Online registration begins today and will be open until the event(s) is full.   Whether you are a member of MTS or not, use the "My Profile" button to register and pay for the event(s) you have chosen.

To avoid the payment system timing out, have your payment ready at the time of registration.  Please note that for planning purposes, lunch for SAGE conference must be ordered by October 15th.  There will be no lunch provided for those registering after this date and walk-ups on the day of the conference.  Our Early Bird incentive expires October 1, 2017 so register early to take advantage of our reduced rate.  

Immediately upon registration, you will receive an email confirming that you have registered for the conference and/or TMC5 (this will be the email address you used to create your My Profile account).   If you pay immediately online, a second email will be sent to you from Paypal (this will be email address you used to create your Paypal Account).  These emails will be the only confirmation that you will receive regarding registration and payment.  If applicable, save them as proof of payment.

If you have registered and can no longer attend, please use the same access through MTS My Profile to cancel your registration.  No refunds will be given after October 15, 2017.

Please note that if you choose the Pay Later option, the MSLA will delete your registration if payment has not been received, either electronically using the MTS system or by sending a cheque to the MSLA Registrar, 7 days after your initial registration. The MSLA will endeavor to contact late registrants but we do not guarantee your registration after the 7 day grace period.

The MSLA hopes that you will consider, once again, taking out a membership with our organization whether you can attend the conference or not.  A strong membership base allows the MSLA to provide outstanding professional development, awards and grants to its members throughout the year.  The MTS registration system through My Profile can be used only renew your membership, if desired.
